On the morning of December 2, 2025, Consul General Li Qianghai paid a courtesy call on Haroun Ali Suleiman, Minister of State for Constitution, Legal Affairs, Civil Services and Good Governance. The two sides held in-depth discussions on China–Zanzibar relations and bilateral cooperation.

China was among the first countries in the world to recognize the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution, and over the years has provided substantial assistance to Zanzibar in areas such as healthcare and development, making China a true friend of Zanzibar. At present, Zanzibar hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in anti-corruption and civil-service capacity building, learn from China’s experience in combating corruption, and send more senior officials to China for training in order to enhance Zanzibar’s governance capacity.

Consul General Li Qianghai stated that he fully agrees with Minister Suleiman’s high evaluation of China–Zanzibar relations. The China–Tanzania and China–Zanzibar friendship was personally established and nurtured by the elder generations of leaders on both sides. Over the long term, the two sides have trusted, respected and supported each other, and the relationship has grown even stronger with time. Currently, bilateral cooperation in trade, health, education and cultural exchanges has achieved fruitful results. China will continue to deepen the friendly relations between China and Zanzibar to better benefit the peoples of both sides. Consul General Li also provided a detailed introduction of the various training programs China is currently conducting in Zanzibar.
