On March 25, 2025, a donation ceremony for medical supplies by the Chinese medical team in Zanzibar was held at Abdulla Mzee Hospital on Pemba Island. Chinese Consul General in Zanzibar, Li Qianghua, Captain of the 34th batch of the Chinese medical team’s Pemba unit, Huang Haijin, and representatives from Zanzibar’s health authorities attended the event. The donation, fully funded by the Jiangsu provincial government, included medical equipment such as portable ultrasound diagnostic devices, fully automated biochemical analyzers, and electrocardiographic monitors, as well as over 20 types of medicines, including antibiotics and anti-malarial drugs.

Consul General Li Qianghua remarked that since 1964, Jiangsu Province has dispatched 34 batches of more than 600 medical personnel to Zanzibar. Working alongside local healthcare professionals, they have provided medical services to the local population and treated countless patients. He emphasized that these medical professionals are not only angels in white who save lives but also friendly envoys fostering goodwill. This donation of medical supplies is a concrete step in implementing the China-Africa "Health Cooperation Initiative," further benefiting local communities and improving medical conditions in the region.

The assistant director of Abdulla Mzee Hospital highlighted that the donated equipment would significantly enhance the hospital’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities, while the mentorship mechanism between Chinese and local medical professionals contributes to talent development. A Pemba Island health official emphasized that since its renovation in 2016, the hospital has become a key regional medical center under the China-Africa cooperation framework.
